French is compulsory in all years up to the age of sixteen. Junior School pupils are taught 30 minutes of French every day. In the senior school students have 3 hours of French per week at KS3 (Years 7 to 9), 2.5 hours per week at KS4 (Years 10 and 11) and 5 hours a week at AS and A2 (Years 12 and 13) except for students in the fast track teaching set known as Special Objectives French. Special Objectives classes are for pupils with native or near-native competence in French. The pupils study a programme of language, literature and culture akin to that found in a French school. They take GCSE French in Year 10, AS French in Year 11 and complete the full A Level in Year 13.
