English Language Programme

English as an Additional Language Programme
EAL classes can be offered to pupils whose first language is not English or whose previous educational work has not been in English.

EAL pupils are taught in small groups where the level of instruction is adjusted to suit each pupil's needs.

Emphasis is given to all four language skills - listening, reading, speaking and writing - to provide the pupils with sufficient English for their needs in the Senior School.

Intensive English
We offer Intensive English for pupils up to and including Year 10 who have very little or no English.

They are taught in a small group with a specialised teacher. Intensive English pupils belong to tutor groups and  join in sporting activities, Physical Education, PSHE and Art with their class. They integrate into the mainstream Mathematics, ICT and Music classes as quickly as possible and study the vocabulary, structures and concepts of Science, History and Geography within the Intensive English class.

The aim for each pupil is to achieve proficiency in listening, reading, writing and speaking English so that he/she can integrate fully into the mainstream class.
