Pastoral Care

While assemblies cater for a whole school approach to Pastoral Care and Discipline, the ethos of the school is set around the Golden Rules which pervade the classroom, dining room and playtimes. Kindness, concern and respect for others are the goals to which we all hope to aspire, and which are reinforced during class Circle Time, Golden Time and the PALS system, thus helping the children in their personal and cultural development.

In the Junior School all of the teachers are aware of the often varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds of many of our children, and adjust their teaching approaches with this in mind, to try to ensure that all children can fully access the work being introduced. In this, teachers are supported by an EAL coordinator who provides advice on teaching methods and suitable materials, while also monitoring pupils’ progress.

There are two teachers in the Learning Support Department who are there to assist in the first instance both in the class and in withdrawing children. Local specialists are available to plan and work with teachers and assistants should a child require additional help. (Please refer to fees list.)

The children who are working well above the overall level of their class or group will be given opportunities to add breadth and gain enrichment from their tasks, and will be encouraged to increase the depth of their learning, extending their output through complexity

Lunch is an integral part of the school day, bringing together teachers and pupils of various year groups. The cook provides a hot lunch for everyone, with care and consideration given to any specific dietary requirements.
