Learning at the British School of Paris commences for children aged 3 years in our Nursery Class. The BSP Nursery is based on the 6 areas of learning of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, based on the British Curriculum. The BSP Reception year continues to build on the Early Years Foundation Stage framework.
The philosophy underpinning the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is that learning should be carefully planned with an emphasis on activities that are relevant and motivating for each child. Our teachers support children's learning through planned play and extending and developing children's spontaneous play. Six areas covered by the early learning goals and educational programmes:
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Language and literacy
- Knowledge and skills in mathematics
- Knowledge and understanding of the world
- Physical development
- Creative development
You can find out more about the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework by visiting the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority
Our aim in the Reception Year is to develop confident, happy children who are eager to learn and to share their experiences with others in a safe and secure environment that encourages exploration and self-expression, so laying down a firm base for the years of education to come.
Our Reception Year staff use the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework as the basis for the children’s learning.
In addition this busy programme is enriched by the same range of additional lessons as enjoyed by the older years. These include a daily French lesson, PE lessons (including weekly swimming) and music, all with our specialist staff.
